Resolution 70:4
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the Ordination of Those Who Violate the Seventh Commandment
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (PCUSA), in its recently concluded 217th General Assembly, upheld an ordination provision requiring faithfulness in marriage and chastity in singleness of life. However, later the General Assembly voted to grant sessions and presbyteries full discretion to declare as “nonessential” these Biblical standards that are mandated by the Constitution of the PCUSA.
The PCUSA has thus declared the seventh commandment as “nonessential.” This opens the way for the ordination of persons who openly engage in homosexual or heterosexual activity outside of marriage. “The Layman Online” for July 6, 2006, stated, “Accordingly, the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has broken covenant and invited schism. Its repudiation of our historic bond are the culmination of serial separations from the denomination’s historic beliefs and practices that began decades ago.”
The General Synod of the Bible Presbyterian Church, meeting in Grand Island, New York, August 3-8, 2006, calls those within the PCUSA to follow the commands of Scripture (2 Corinthians 6:14 - 7:1) to separate from the apostate Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and to affiliate with a God-honoring Presbyterian denomination that is in no way connected with the rampant apostasy of our day.
Adopted by the 70th General Synod of the Bible Presbyterian Church,
meeting in Grand Island, NY, August 3-8, 2006.
